Rand al’Thor lived a simple life in a simple place called the Two Rivers. He was in love with the lovely Egwene al’Vere, at odds most times with the Wisdom of the town, Nynaeve al’Meara and had great friends in Mat Cauthon and Perrin Aybara. But then the mysterious woman Moiraine and her friend Lan arrive in Emond’s Field and Rand’s life–along with the lives of his friends–changes forever.
To say that Robert Jordan’s first book of his Wheel of Time series, The Eye of the World is my favorite fantasy novel would be an understatement! I couldn’t put this phenomenal book down! In my opinion, it is definitely the best in the entire series…so far. 😉
The Eye of the World introduces you to Rand al’Thor, our main character. When the Aes Sedai, Moiraine and her Warder, Lan, arrive in the small town called Emond’s Field he discovers that she’s actually come for him. And for his friends. Little does he know that the journey she is about to take him on will make him the terror and hero of the whole world.
Robert Jordan twists an incredible story of the power of good and evil and he even slips some romance in there. But this book was only the beginning of an amazing adventure. The development of the characters throughout the series is amazing.
As the forces of good battle the forces of evil, Rand starts to discover that things aren’t as simple in the rest of the world as they were in his little hometown. Emond’s Field, so separated from the rest of the world, has yet to be touched by the evil that is slowly beginning to make its way through the world.
And Moiraine is determined that Rand could possibly be the one who could change everything.
Their adventure takes these beloved characters through horrible peril, near deaths and introduces them to new characters that the reader comes to love as the series goes on. This first book will capture your attention and draw you in so entirely that you won’t be able to wait to read the next one.
The Eye of the World leaves you with only the beginning of Rand al’Thor’s destiny…which could end tragically.
Robert Jordan wrote with such a passion and power that he can’t be compared to anyone! I will always be thankful for the day that a friend suggested I start this series. Talent like Robert Jordan’s isn’t found every day, and his work has influenced mine in so many ways!
I, personally, can’t wait to read the rest of the books and finally find out what happens to these beloved characters! So, if you’re looking for a good fantasy filled with adventure, action and mystery then you better go out and get The Eye of the World! You won’t regret it!
Coming Soon: He thought that maybe it was over…he thought he could just leave and be alone…he didn’t realize that the adventure had only just begun. Look for my review of The Great Hunt, by Robert Jordan, soon!!
