Kathryn Jennings made a vow. For better or for worse. And that vow holds true, even though her marriage seems to be crumbling. In Tamera Alexander’s novel, Rekindled, we find an incredible journey of faith, hope and love.
Larson Jennings has difficulty trusting his very beautiful wife. Having grown up with a broken family, he is very possessive and jealous. This puts a strain on his relationship with his wife, and after ten years of marriage, they’ve both grown weary.
But when Larson goes away, Kathryn is left alone to handle the ranch. And when he doesn’t return, she fears the worse. Word is that Larson is dead, and when there is a body found, Kathryn knows that her husband has perished. And she also knows something else…she is carrying the child that Larson thought he could never have. Kathryn must pull all her strength forward and go on. She has to survive, for her child. And for the people she has come to know and love, like Annabelle, a lost young woman who has been walking the path of prostitution. And Matthew, the man who claims to love her and wants to take care of her.
But Larson is alive. Having survived a horrible attack that left him scarred and a bit disfigured, Larson has discovered that there is a God out there who cares. He has finally put his heart in the palm of God’s hand, and he wants to return to Kathryn. But when he returns no one recognizes him and most people shy away from him because of his disfigured face.
And when he sees Kathryn, pregnant and walking with Matthew, his heart is broken. He sees a couple…a couple who are expecting a baby. Larson is struck suddenly by the realization that perhaps he was right about Kathryn. Perhaps he was right not to trust her all those years.
But another yearning fills his heart. He still loves his wife. But he’s not ready to show her yet. He’s not ready to show her that her husband is alive. In fact, he doesn’t think he’ll ever be ready for that. He changes his name to Jacob, and decides to start over.
When the man called Jacob comes into Kathryn’s life, she finds a gentle soul in him. She finds a good, strong man and she doesn’t mind his scars. Not only that…but she thinks she’s starting to fall in love with this quiet, faithful man.
Rekindled was an amazing story! I absolutely loved the strength of the novel, the realities placed on every page and the faith that these two characters had. Kathryn’s undying faithfulness to Larson, and Larson’s new faith in the Lord were beautiful themes. And the fact that Larson and Kathryn both were given a second chance left me with tears in my eyes.
Will this couple’s love be rekindled? Will they fall in love…again? If you want to know, then you’ll just have to read it yourself!
